Happy St. Patrick’s Day all! In Western culture, it’s all about green beers, Irish coffees and raucous fun, but who was Saint Patrick?

February is a month where love is heavy in the air, greeting card companies flourish, and a groundhog in Pennsylvania predicts the arrival of Spring. We can find a reason for just about any occasion to be paired with drink or two, but during February, we anticipate one of the best party holidays of all, Mardi Gras: Where the true art of celebration is heavy in the air, and oh yeah, the drinks are flowing.

Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is here. With all the lovey dovey goodies popping up all around you, it’s certainly the sort of holiday that’s hard to ignore. Whether or not you’re the type of lovebird to opt for a night out with your sweetheart complete with roses and a box of chocolates, or if you’re just treating it as just another day, there’s no reason a cocktail shouldn’t be involved. Plus, if you’re a part of the service industry yourself, chances are you’ll be working one of the busiest nights of the year, and you’ll need a drink for sure after that.

Grab your favorite Galway Girl, a bottle of Tullamore D.E.W., and your favorite brew - Irish Coffee Day is this Saturday the 25th! Like many a legend, the recipe for what would become famously known as the Irish coffee came to fruition with none other than curiosity, passion, and a fortunate run of trial and error that led to the delicacy that has been enjoyed for decades around the globe.

Terroir has become a popular tasting note mostly while drinking wine. Who could blame anyone? It’s a beautiful French word that simply means “earth and soil”. We know it’s really much more than that. Terroir is the way that the elements of a specific environment make up the components of the soil. Through eating and drinking (especially wine) the products of this labor, we can sense those components of the earth and taste how the fruit developed. Think about the aspects of terroir while we talk about shochu. But first, what is shochu?

The world is a’changing, folks. How we socialize, how we work, and yes, even how we drink. Thanks to things like the internet and the millennial self-care craze, “treat yo self” has taken on a more wholesome and health-conscious meaning in recent years. 

What is Brandy?! This is a question I get a lot when at the bar I work. As I begin writing this, I can’t help to think about the song “Brandy” by Looking Glass that was released in 1972 and hit number 1 on the Billboard charts.

October is in full swing, ladies and gentlemen - which means fall fun, Halloween frights, and in our world, some boozy tricks and treats. Another way that October is near and dear to our hearts is that its National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
